The Manonmaniam Sundaranar University was established by Government of Tamilnadu by its Act No.31 of 1990. This University has been granted 12B and 2 (f) recognition by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi Vide its  Communication No F.No. 5-1/90 (CPP-I) dt 29.03.1994. The Manonmaniam Sundaranar University Act of 1990 states (Chapter II, No: 6 page No.9) that “to hold examinations and to confer degrees, titles, diplomas and other academic distinctions on persons who shall have pursued an approved course of study by correspondence, whether residing within the University area or not, and to provide such lectures and instructions for persons not being residents within the University area under conditions prescribed” The Manonmaniam Sundaranar University started Distance Education from the year 1993. The Distance Education Council has also approved our Distance Education programme.
